The Semiahmoo House Society is
committed to supporting the best quality of life possible for the people we
support. The philosophy of the Peninsula Childcare program is to create a
safe environment for children in which their total development is encouraged
and supported. To meet the social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs
of the child both individually and in a group context. In order to continue
to meet the child’s, family and community needs, it is absolutely critical
that we undertake the ‘Daycare Revitalization’ project. In addition, our goal
is to ensure that all children (including the disabled) have equal access to
quality daycare in the community
The purpose for this project is based
on the following:
-
First and foremost is the health and
safety of the children
-
Secondly, to provide high quality
daycare for all children, including those with a disability by having
wheelchair accessibility
-
Lastly, to improve the general
appearance of the building and meet the communities expectations.
There has been an extensive review of
all areas requiring repair and renovation for wheelchair accessibility. The
following is a list of renovations that are hoped to be complete:
-
Build wheelchair ramp.
-
Install elevator
-
Both washrooms to be made wheelchair
accessible. Lower sinks, install handicap toilets
-
Interior & Exterior upgrading and
repairs
-
Repair front exterior stairs.

Thank you Vancity for your

newsletter:"Vancity
is pleased to be able to support the Semiahmoo House Society to strengthen the
Peninsula Daycare as a sustainable social enterprise and to improve access for
children with special needs. We congratulate you on your growth with the
expansion into daycare services and for all of your valuable and caring work
in the community".
Vancity’s vision is to be a strong financial co-operative
and a catalyst for a socially just and environmentally sustainable economy. To
get there, Vancity makes business decisions that consider the well-being of
members, employees, communities and the environment, and dedicates financial
and non-financial resources to support those working for positive change in
our communities.
As part of it’s vision to help communities thrive and
prosper, Vancity is committed to supporting the development of successful
social enterprises. Social enterprises are non-profit or cooperative
businesses that provide goods and services to earn revenue and
achieve social, economic, and/or environmental goals. They play an important
role in our local economy, and make vital contributions to our communities, by
creating jobs, building environmental sustainability, or expanding
community-based services, such as childcare services.
Vancity draws on business and financial tools from across
the organization - including grants, loans and technical assistance - to
support social enterprises. It also builds community partnerships to help
non-profits and co-operatives move along the path from early stage business
development to strong and thriving enterprises.
