HandyDART is a public transit service which uses specially equipped vehicles designed to carry passengers with physical or cognitive disabilities who are unable to use public transit without assistance.  It is a customized door-to-door service and the drivers all have specialized training.

DART stands for Dial-A-Ride-Transportation.  A passenger may telephone the local HandyDART operator to request a trip.  Trips may be booked 2 - 6 days in advance.  HandyDART passengers are picked up at the accessible outside door of their residence and dropped off at the outside door of their destination.

Semiahmoo House Society operates the HandyDART services in Langley, South Surrey and White Rock.

Who is Eligible

Persons with a physical or cognitive disability who are unable to use public transit without assistance are eligible to use the HandyDART.  Persons who wish to use HandyDART should contact our office to register and will be required to complete an application form.  The applicants eligibility will be verified by a doctore, senior health official or senior social service official.  This information is necessary to match the passenger's travel needs to the service, and remains confidential.

Our Vehicles

Semiahmoo House Society operates 50 HandyDART vehicles under contract to TransLink.  All vehicles meet high safety and maintenance standards.  Passenger comfort and safety are very important to us.

Types of Trips

HandyDART offers two types of service.  Trips that are regularly taken, i.e., daily or weekly, are called subscription trips.  Trips taken on a one-time basis are called casual trips.

Trips are booked based on priority.  Highest priority is given to work, medical and post-secondary education schedules.  Leisure and recreational trips are taken as time permits.

Trip requests for same day, or with short notice will be accommodated as best we can.  Please call the HandyDART main number and press 3 to speak to our dispatch office to make a short notice request.

HandyDART is a shared ride public transit system.  At times, passengers may have to travel with one or more other passengers.

Fares and Zones

The TransLink service region is divided into fare zones that correspond with HandyDART service areas. 2008 Cash fares are:
